SUMMARY:Tanabata Festival
DESCRIPTION:You are warmly invited to the Denver Takayama Sister City Committee’s annual Tanabata Festival celebration on Sunday\, August 23 from 5:30 – 8 pm. \n\nThe gathering will be held at The Sellers private residence in Centennial with a beautiful Japanese garden (and tea house). The address and additional details will be provided after registering. \n\n \n⭐️ 🌟 What is Tanabata? ⭐️🌟\n\nTanabata (Star Festival) is a traditional Japanese festival based on a romantic legend that dates back more than 1\,000 years. According to the story\, two celestial lovers—Orihime (the Weaving Princess)\, represented by the star Vega\, and Hikoboshi (the Cowherd)\, represented by the star Altair—were separated by the Milky Way because they neglected their duties after falling in love. They are allowed to meet only once a year\, on the seventh day of the seventh month\, if the skies are clear. \nToday\, Tanabata is celebrated throughout Japan as a festival of hope\, wishes\, and community. People write their wishes on colorful strips of paper called tanzaku and hang them on bamboo branches\, believing their hopes and dreams may come true. The wishes can be about health\, success in school or work\, happiness\, peace\, or personal goals. \n\n\n\n\n\nIt will be an opportunity to meet members of the Denver Takayama Sister City Committee\, and enjoy a relaxing evening of Japanese cultural entertainment and light refreshments. \nIf you would like to attend\, please sign up using the link below: \nhttps://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/tanabata-festival-celebration–2026\nWe hope you can join us and look forward to seeing you there! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBest regards\, \nSusan Weller\, DSCI Takayama Committee Chair

SUMMARY:Leonardo da Vinci Museum of North America Opens in Pueblo
DESCRIPTION:This June\, Colorado will celebrate a remarkable cultural milestone with the grand opening of the Leonardo da Vinci Museum of North America in Pueblo—described as the first institution of its kind in the United States dedicated to the life\, ideas\, and legacy of Leonardo da Vinci. \nThe opening represents more than the launch of a museum. It is a celebration of creativity\, innovation\, art\, engineering\, and cross-cultural inspiration—values that strongly align with the mission of Denver Sister Cities International and the spirit of the Potenza Committee. \nSeveral members and supporters connected to the Potenza Sister Cities community have been involved in supporting and promoting this landmark effort\, highlighting the deep and continuing cultural ties between Colorado and Italy. \nThe museum’s grand opening festivities will include a Renaissance-inspired festival and ribbon cutting on June 12 in downtown Pueblo\, following a June 11 speaker event titled Inside the Mind of a Genius: Conversations with da Vinci Scholars. Featured speakers include scholars and innovators exploring Leonardo’s enduring influence across science\, engineering\, art\, and human imagination. \nFor Colorado\, the museum represents a powerful new cultural destination—one that brings Italian heritage\, Renaissance thinking\, and educational opportunity into the heart of the region. It also reflects a broader movement happening across many sister city relationships: building bridges not only through travel\, but through shared ideas\, public learning\, and collaborative cultural experiences. \nAs Denver Sister Cities continues to strengthen its relationships with communities around the world\, projects like this remind us that international partnerships can inspire innovation and creativity far beyond city boundaries. \nDenver Sister Cities International along with The Potenza Committee celebrate this exciting achievement and looks forward to seeing how this unique institution contributes to Colorado’s growing cultural and international landscape. \n\nEvent Information\nLeonardo da Vinci Museum of North America – Grand Opening\nJune 12 at 10:00 AM\n310 Central Main Street\nPueblo\, Colorado \nAdditional events include: \n\nInside the Mind of a Genius: Conversations with da Vinci Scholars\nRenaissance-inspired festival and ribbon cutting celebration\n\nFor more information\, visit:\ndavincisteam.org

SUMMARY:DSCI Communications Workshop - April 25th
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to invite current members of Denver Sister Cities International to participate in a new daytime workshop designed to help our committees strengthen how we communicate\, share events\, and tell the story of our international partnerships. \nDSCI Communications Workshop: Helping Our Committees Tell Their Story \nDate: Saturday\, April 25 \nTime: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM (including working lunch) \nFormat: Hands-on workshop (please bring your laptop) \nLunch: Included \nLocation: Geotech Environmental Equipment\, Inc.  2650 E 40th Ave\, Denver\, CO 80205 \nRSVP by Wednesday\, April 22\, 2026 \nThis practical session is intended for committee leaders\, active members\, and anyone involved in organizing programs\, exchanges\, or events who would like to better understand how DSCI uses content\, imagery\, email communication\, and publishing tools. \nDuring the workshop\, we will explore: \n\nhow to write stronger event stories and announcements\nhow often committees should communicate\nwhat kinds of photos best support our work\nhow DSCI’s publishing process works\nhow content can be submitted for publication\nhow our email lists are organized and used\nsimple digital tools that can help committees communicate more effectively\n\nWe will also work in pairs so members can support one another during the session\, making this a practical and collaborative learning experience. \nWe strongly encourage every committee leader to attend and ask that each active committee also send at least one additional member. Having both leadership and committee participation in the room will help us build a shared communications approach across DSCI and ensure that each committee can more easily contribute content going forward. \nThis workshop will also serve as the onboarding step for members who wish to use DSCI communications tools\, submission workflows\, and shared marketing assets in the future. Establishing a common understanding of content standards and publishing practices will help us support all committees more effectively. \nBecause this workshop will focus on tools and communications available to our organization\, participation is limited to active DSCI members. Please take a moment to confirm that your membership is current before attending. \nThis workshop is part of DSCI’s effort to strengthen shared committee practices and support stronger communication across the organization. \nWe are grateful to Geotech Environmental Equipment for generously sponsoring the location for this workshop and helping support this learning opportunity for DSCI members. \nWe hope you will join us.

SUMMARY:New Exhibition Opening: “The Stars We Do Not See”
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Australian Indigenous Art \nOpens April 19\, 2026 \nFrom the DAM \nThe Stars We Do Not See: Australian Indigenous Art is the largest exhibition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art ever presented internationally. This landmark exhibition is the product of an unprecedented cultural partnership between the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) in Melbourne and the National Gallery of Art in Washington\, D.C.\, and the Denver Art Museum will be its second venue. \nCurated by the NGV especially for North American audiences\, the exhibition features more than 130 works by 142 artists\, several of whom worked collaboratively\, drawn exclusively from the NGV’s world-leading collection. These works are designed to elicit a sense of awe\, while introducing visitors to the art\, resilience\, and depth of the world’s longest continuous cultures. Through a rich display of iconic masterpieces—many of which have never before left Australia—The Stars We Do Not See charts watershed moments in Indigenous art from the late 19th century to the present. \nThe exhibition introduces audiences to customary forms and styles in Indigenous Australian art\, including the conceptual map paintings of the Central and Western Deserts\, ochre bark paintings\, and experimental weavings. It also highlights the work of new-media artists\, who build on tradition with groundbreaking works in neon\, video\, and photography. \nThe Stars We Do Not See: Australian Indigenous Art is organized by the National Gallery of Victoria\, Melbourne and the National Gallery of Art\, Washington\, in association with the Denver Art Museum\, the Portland Art Museum\, and the Peabody Essex Museum. \nBank of America is the North America Tour Sponsor for the exhibition.
