Denver Sister Cities International (DSCI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building lasting international relationships through citizen diplomacy, cultural exchange, education, and community engagement.
Our work connects Denver residents with people and institutions around the world. Students, educators, artists, businesses, civic leaders, and volunteers all contribute to these relationships.
Through ten sister city partnerships and a growing network of international friendships, we help make global connections accessible to people throughout the Denver community.

It began with an act of kindness.
Before international partnerships became formal agreements, Denver’s schoolchildren reached across the Atlantic to help children they had never met.
In 1947, the world was still recovering from the devastation of World War II. Thousands of miles from Denver, the children of Brest, France, were living with the consequences of a city devastated by war.
Denver’s students decided to help.
Through a remarkable community effort, Denver schoolchildren joined a campaign to support children in Brest. The effort brought attention to the hardships facing young people overseas and encouraged Denver residents to provide assistance.
On May 10, 1947, the Rocky Mountain News reported on the campaign under the headline “Denver Students to Aid Kids of War-Torn Brest.”
The campaign helped establish a relationship between the two communities that would endure long after the immediate need for relief had passed.
Denver and Brest became sister cities in 1948, beginning a relationship that continues today.
From those early acts of compassion, Denver’s international relationships grew into a network spanning ten sister cities around the world.

Committee leaders and volunteers organize cultural events, welcome visiting delegations, create educational opportunities, and maintain friendships with partner communities abroad.
Members, sponsors, community organizations, and local institutions also play an important role in helping these relationships flourish.

In 2026, Denver established a Friendship City relationship with Dnipro, Ukraine, creating another opportunity for international solidarity, cultural understanding, and community connection.
