⚓ Brest, France – Denver’s First Sister City
Brest, France
Brest, in Brittany, is known for its maritime heritage and dramatic coastline. With roots in Roman times and a strategic naval base established in 1631, the city was heavily bombed during WWII. Out of that devastation grew a lasting friendship: Denver students raised funds in 1947 to rebuild Brest’s children’s hospital—sparking the first U.S.–France Sister City relationship and Denver’s very first partnership.
Today, Brest is a vibrant hub of culture and innovation that embodies the spirit of peace and collaboration between our cities.
